Get close to the VELUX history

In 1942, the Dane Villum Kann Rasmussen (MSc Eng.) invented the VELUX roof window. His goal was to develop a roof window that in every respect was just as good as the best vertical window. Over the years the VELUX roof window has transformed millions of unused attics into inexpensive and comfortable homes – with direct access to daylight, fresh air and clear views.

At the VELUX Collection, you can explore the fascinating story of how a small Danish enterprise sees the light of day and battles on through wartime shortages to become a global market leader with more than 10,000 employees in 40 countries. You can also enjoy a close-up view of how VELUX roof windows have developed over time against the backdrop of Denmark's dramatic transition from crafts to industrial production.
