The blue trail

In 1946, Villum Kann Rasmussen began making VELUX roof windows at a carpentry workshop in Østbirk where nine carpenters and two unskilled assistants were employed.

In 1950 the limited company, A/S Østbirk Bygningsindustri was established – the first production company in the VELUX Group. During the mid-1950s the methods for producing the roof windows based on craftsmanship were replaced by industrial production methods based on the use of machinery. Follow ‘The blue trail’ to explore the history of production in Østbirk.
